Memories of a once-thriving industry are preserved in these paintings of textile mill interiors by Janis Bowie. Evocative watercolours attempt to capture the light and airy atmosphere of the mill environment, whilst large acrylic works portray how the imposing structures of machinery dominate the mill setting.

Mark Murphy – Retrospective: 30 years of painting and drawing
This exhibition looks at the stylistic development of a single artist over a long career. Mark Murphy has been a practising artist since the 1970s and has exhibited in Calderdale for over twenty years. He has created images from the landscape and also been inspired by the work of El Greco and Bosch. More recently he has been exploring portraiture, working from photographs to develop new images.

The architect Thomas Bradley had created what appears to be a piece of Italy in Halifax. A large open courtyard, some 91 x 110 yards in extent is surrounded on all four sides by elegant, galleried walkways, originally providing access to 315 individual rooms, 12 feet x 7 feet, each with a door and sash window, which were leased by the cloth manufacturers to sell their goods.
