The Society of Scribes and Illuminators was founded in 1921 by students of Edward Johnston, the father of modern calligraphy. ‘Celebrate Calligraphy’ exhibition is in celebration of the SSI’s 90th anniversary. The exhibition of work by Fellows and Lay members of the Society, is designed to show that excellence in the fields of calligraphy, lettering, heraldry and illumination have a significant role to play in the 21st century. 

The exhibits on show in ‘Celebrate Calligraphy’ includes a diverse range of work, including pieces on various kinds of paper, illustration, vellum and raised gilding on gesso, letter carving and cut letterforms, manuscript books and bookbinding, appealing to a wide ranging audience.

New work by members of Calderdale Calligraphers, showing the diversity of skills and artistic approaches used in contemporary calligraphy. It is a showcase of the wealth of talent which exists in Calderdale and its environs by members of all ages and abilities.

Fabulous work. So impressed by the artistry. I only wish I could afford to buy some of the beautiful exhibits. Much of the exhibits are for sale. Highly recommend you visit this impressive exhibition.

OH MY. TWO CALLIGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS ON AT THE SAME TIME? STUPID. WHY NOT SPACE THEM OUT WHEN WE HEVE TO WAIT SO LONG BETWEEN EXHIBITIONS?
