The Piece Hall plays host to an incredibly diverse range of cultural and social events throughout the year, ranging from concerts and bands, to farmers’ markets, vintage motor-cycle rallies, and of course a full programme during the Christmas season. The calendar of activities on this page provides detailed listings, with opportunities to pre-book where necessary.

The historic Piece Hall will play host to local favourites ‘OFF THE WALL’ as they return to their roots with their strongest line up to date.
Superb sound and lights, plus featured laser show. Friends and international guest musicians further enhance the unique atmosphere within the courtyard and tiered galleries which frame this unique venue….A SPECTACLE NOT TO BE MISSED!

It’s the middle of the summer holidays and Play England is calling on us all to protect playtime and make time and space for children to play throughout the country.
This year’s theme for national Play Day is ‘Our Space’. We are looking forward to an exciting day when families and whole communities get together to celebrate and uphold childrens rights to play.
There will be lots to do, stories, music, arts and crafts, and fun games. All we need is for you to come and make it your space to come and play.

Put on your sunglasses and admire the chrome glinting in the brilliant August sun. New and classic bikes and scooters will line up, row after row. Ska, rock’n’roll and reggae music will be played back to back. This family event includes main dealer stands, battle of the DJs, Mods vs Rockers, food and beer tents, stalls and much more!
Lets not forget the bikes! Judging will take place from ‘best classic’, ‘best cruiser’ and ‘best in show’ (in association with Bradford Discharge Scooter Club).
If you want to take part in the mass ride out it starts at 10.30am from Macmillians, Wheatley.

Through years of rigorous touring, Mugenkyo have developed a gritty passionate style that is uniquely their own, retaining the traditional spirit of taiko yet creating a contemporary sound and a modern stage show that has captivated audiences everywhere.
Thundering rhythms on huge taiko drums interweave with layers of percussive soundscapes and delicate bamboo flute in a spellbinding display of precise choreography and sheer athleticism.
This is a spectacular performance of heart-pounding excitement and an unmissable opportunity to see this innovative and visually stunning group in the magnificent surroundings of the stunning Piece Hall.
We suggest that you bring your family, friends, something to sit on and don’t forget your waterproofs for an outdoor performance like no other – whatever the weather.

Ready to rock the Piece Hall?
A team of experienced musicians and music pundits will be the judges as some of Calderdale’s best young bands play live for the chance to become champions of Battle of the Bands 2010.
This year’s event will be hosted by The Loconics, winners of last year’s Battle of the Bands. It has been a great year for this talented bunch who went on to reach the semi-final stage of the Live and Unsigned 2010 national competition.

Extraordinary Moves: The Pod Experience
Discover the secret world of Human Enhancement Technology. If you love big ideas and quirky theatre, don’t miss this new work by Chol Theatre and Sheffield Hallam University. Extraordinary Moves is commissioned by imove, Yorkshire’s Legacy Trust programme, and is part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
Hippochondriac
Part animal and part mechanical, Hieronymus the hippo is feeling under the weather. Fortunately, his companion doctor/mechanic is only too eager to show you what’s under the bonnet to diagnose the problem. A new puppet production from Thingumajig Theatre.

Taking the lead from the popular TV series ‘How we used to live’ (filmed in Luddendenfoot!), we are holding a day dedicated to the history of Halifax between the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
Dance and entertainment spanning the three decades. Dress to impress and for a vintage fashion and style show. Costume can be hired from Purple Rabbit Vintage – Unit 11, Piece Hall.
Which decade evokes those ‘Sweet Memories’ for you. Join us as we immerse ourselves in the shared nostalgia of magical bygone days. Historical re-enactments, period vehicles and local producers. A family event for old and young.

The upper level of the Piece Hall comprises a graceful colonnade of Tuscan round columns. The middle level, which is the ground floor level at the top of the sloping courtyard, is supported by Rustic columns of chamfered square pattern. The lower ground floor level has massive squared piers supporting Tuscan arches.
