DESCRIPTION:Sandy Summer Daze\nJoin us for a free family Halifax staycation event. Come to The Piece Hall and enjoy the sand between your toes\, the sounds of the beach and an ice-cream or two as our giant courtyard is transformed into a beachfront with traditional attractions to bring a seaside holiday atmosphere to West Yorkshire. \nSandy Summer Daze features a beach area with deckchairs for parents and children together with buckets & spades\, a colourful beach hut\, games\, two carousel rides*\, a peep-through display and giant deckchair for photo memories of a family day out beside the seaside. \nThis is a free event but booking is essential. \nThe beach area will be open from 10am – 5.15pm each day with free entry for ticket holders. Families can book a 1 hour session throughout the day to relax and have fun in the sand. \nA SEND session is available on Thursday 28 July at 9.15am – 10.30am – this session is for children with special educational needs or disabilities. This session will take place earlier in the day when The Piece Hall is usually less busy to create a quieter environment. Background music will be turned off. The capacity for this session is less than our other sessions to allow more space for your children to play. As frontman of The Jam\, he spearheaded the Mod revival in the late ’70s and early ’80s\, scoring a string of hits before forming The Style Council and then embarking on a stellar solo career. \nHis wondrous 17th solo album ‘An Orchestrated Songbook’ was released just a month ago. Recorded with award-winning arranger Jules Buckley and the BBC Symphony Orchestra\, the album reimagines a selection of his vast catalogue including such classics as English Rose\, Broken Stones\, You’re the Best Thing\, Wild Wood and You Do Something to Me. \nWeller’s live shows are the stuff of legend\, mixing his unstoppable brand of high adrenaline rock with beautiful orchestral and acoustic moments. Look out for Skating Carnival Kingfishers\, Giant Birds\, Moths & a Magical Spirit Tree! The performance is set to the music of DJ Soca Haze and will take place at 11.30am\, 1.30pm and 3pm. \nGet Creative and join Callaloo Carnival Arts in their drop-in art workshops and make a Paper Moth from recycled paper\, inspired by a Poem in the book ‘Lost Spells’ by Robert Macfarlane. Workshops will take place at the following times: 11am – 12.30pm\, 1 – 2.30pm and 3 – 4pm. \nThroughout the day there will be a selection of stalls to browse\, and performances from One Steel Band.

As the audience try to discover what will happen next\, the box grows legs\, leaps into life and scuttles off. Meeting and greeting are a speciality\, give him half a chance he’ll have you dancing and playing footsie. \nMIKE HANCOCK PRESENTS BIGGER THAN ELVIS & CROONING CAPTAIN \nJoin the comedy singing sea captain for a feast of visual surprises\, live songs and funny tricks. Great tunes from Sinatra to electro swing to Dock of the Bay with silly stunts and audience interaction. Watch out for the magically multiplying bottles\, the soaking rain dance and the impossible drinks balance. Plus\, an 8-foot stilt Elvis makes a comeback tour singing his greatest hits. \nFROLICKED PRESENTS NEVER TOO OLD \nA long-suffering Grandpa and a stubborn Grandma battle it out for your attention and affections. This octogenarian Yorkshire couple have certainly been around for decades\, but they’re no strangers to the 21st century. The feisty\, mobile (just about)\, puppet duo provide a love story with a difference through their antics and arguments\, and they’re living proof that you’re never too old to do anything. \nSKYLIGHT CIRCUS \nCome and try your hands and feet at a variety of different circus skills in this family friendly workshop by Skylight Circus Arts. Get yourselves in a spin with plates and diabolo\, wobble on a pedal go and wiggle with a hula hoop.
