DESCRIPTION:Summer Daze Family Fun\nJoin us for a day of family fun as The Piece Hall courtyard comes to life with carnival creatures\, food\, music and creative workshops. \nCallaloo Carnival Arts bring the sights & sounds of Carnival to The Piece Hall\, featuring fabulous Carnival Creatures in a fun\, interactive performance that will brighten everyone’s day. Look out for Skating Carnival Kingfishers\, Giant Birds\, Moths & a Magical Spirit Tree! The performance is set to the music of DJ Soca Haze and will take place at 11.30am\, 1.30pm and 3pm. \nGet Creative and join Callaloo Carnival Arts in their drop-in art workshops and make a Paper Moth from recycled paper\, inspired by a Poem in the book ‘Lost Spells’ by Robert Macfarlane. Workshops will take place at the following times: 11am – 12.30pm\, 1 – 2.30pm and 3 – 4pm. \nThroughout the day there will be a selection of stalls to browse\, and performances from One Steel Band.

DESCRIPTION:Fantastical Flying Machines Workshop\nDiscover the curious true story of the first ever hot air balloon flight with author Moira Benoit who will read her fantastic children’s book ‘Rooso Takes to the Sky’ with a touch of performance and costume. Follow in the footsteps of inventor Joseph-Michel and join illustrator Louis Benoit in designing and drawing your very own fantastical flying machine! \nMORIA BENOIT \nOn leaving Glasgow School of Art\, Moira followed a career in theatre design\, and while researching for a play for children she came across a series of interesting and amusing true events leading to the first hot air balloon flight at Versailles in 1783. Ultimately it led to a rather wonderful\, informative and funny book; Rooso Takes to the Sky. Moira has designed for Selfridges\, Phoenix Dance Company\, Northern Broadsides and The Wakefield Mystery Plays. \nLOUIS BENOIT \nLouis was a finalist of The Guardian’s Young Cartoonist of the Year\, 2017 and winner of The Hoffman Art Prize 2018. From a very young age it was obvious that Louis had an exceptional drawing ability\, but found conventional schools never quite suited him. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at a late age and finds unique ways of expressing his ideas\, humour and unusual view on things through drawing. He graduated from The Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2011 and has exhibited at The Artworks\, Halifax\, The Artsmill\, Hebden Bridge\, Gallery on the Corner\, Edinburgh\, and The Stafford Gallery\, London. His animated film Goat on a Scooter\, gained critical acclaim at film festivals worldwide including Krakow\, Orlando\, Rome and Birmingham. \nESSENTIAL INFORMATION \nWorkshops lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes and take place at 10.30am and 1pm. \nChildren must be accompanied by an adult. Suitable for ages 6+.

DESCRIPTION:Shed Seven\nPlus special guest The Pigeon Detectives\, The Wedding Present\, Skylights & Brighton Beach DJs\nOne of the region’s most treasured bands headline one of the most iconic landmarks in Yorkshire with a supporting bill full of Yorkshire acts. \nYork’s finest\, Shed Seven have announced a headline show at The Piece Hall. The chart-topping Britpop legends will also host a special line-up of Yorkshire acts and DJs in what promises to be a special evening. \nFormed in 1990 Shed Seven have 15 Top 40 singles and 4 Top 20 albums to their name\, most recently reaching the UK Top 10 with latest album ‘Instant Pleasures’ in 2017 a triumphant return for the band.  This Halifax show comes off the back of yet another successful ‘Shedcember’ tour in December 2019 which featured a huge show at the 13\,000 capacity Leeds First Direct Arena. \nWith hits like ‘Going for Gold’\, ‘On Standby’\, ‘Getting Better’\, ‘Disco Down’ and iconic set closer ‘Chasing Rainbows’ this all-Yorkshire show promises to be an unmissable event in the Piece Hall Summer Series of outdoor gigs for 2020. \nJoining Shed Seven on this Yorkshire-only bill will be platinum-selling indie rockers The Pigeon Detectives\, Leeds indie-legends The Wedding Present and local lads Skylights. Between bands you’ll be able to hear the DJs from trailblazing club night Brighton Beach\, the event that dominated the indie scene up and down the country and at the height of brit pop welcomed Supergrass and Shed Seven for live performances at the club night. DESCRIPTION:The Specials\nPlus special guest The Rifles\, The Skints & Offworld\nPioneers in UK Ska\, and one of the most influential and seminal acts in British history\, The Specials will be coming to The Piece Hall on Sunday 29 August 2021. \nFounded in 1977 The Specials were at the forefront of the 2 Tone movement\, changing the face of UK music in the 1980s with 7 successive top 10 singles between 1979 & 1981 including number one hits like ‘Too Much Too Young’ & ‘Ghost Town’. The band reformed in 1993 and have wowed fans across the world on the live circuit since\, including a huge sold out show at Leeds’ Millennium Square in May 2017. In 2019 the band released ‘Encore’ their first album in 18 years\, which gave the band their first ever number one album\, 40 years after the release of their self-titled debut. \nThe Specials bring with them a very special supporting bill that includes mod rockers The Rifles\, ska-reggae upstarts The Skints and OffWorld\, with more to be announced.
