Indie legends James confirm Live at The Piece Hall headline date

Fresh from celebrating their 40th anniversary, James are delighted to announce they are joining the headline line-up for Live at The Piece Hall 2023.

The indie legends will play the historic Yorkshire venue on Friday 7 July.

Tickets go on sale at 9am Friday 2 December via ticketmaster.co.uk

The Piece Hall announcement comes as the band – who gave the world such timeless anthems as Sit Down, Born of Frustration, She’s A Star and Come Home – get ready to release their forthcoming new double album – featuring orchestral reworkings of their greatest hits, fan favourites, deep cuts and will also include a new track.

One of Britain’s most enduring success stories, James have sold more than 25 million records worldwide since forming in Manchester in the early 1980s – gaining both critical and commercial acclaim.

Their unique craftsmanship, creativity and musical legacy has made them one of the most influential British bands of the last four decades.

This November marks 40 years since their first show as James (The Hacienda, supporting Big Country – November 17,1982).

They continue to be a massive live draw, headlining festivals and selling 60,000 tickets for their 2021 UK arena tour.

Their forthcoming ‘James Lasted’ orchestral tour – which hits the road early next year and includes dates at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and The Royal Albert Hall in London – sold out just hours after going on sale.

Their headline show at The Piece Hall will bring the full live sound James fans know and love to the historic Halifax venue’s iconic open-air courtyard in front of an expected sell-out crowd of 5,550.

Speaking of the band’s 40th anniversary, singer Tim Booth said: “There are a number of great bands who have been around for 40. But to get here and to be having the best time of our lives. To be part of a supportive loving family that still has something to say and new ways to say it. To be turned on by every gig and song. To fall in love over and over again, Groundhog Day, with our bandmates and audience. Damn. That’s time well spent.”

James join Madness, Sting, Embrace, War On Drugs and The Lumineers among the 2023 headliners for Live at The Piece Hall with many more artists still to be announced.

Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Trust, said: “We are really pleased to announce the amazing James are playing at The Piece Hall. This was one of our members’ most requested acts – and destiny called.”
